Album Review: DJ Kemit – Everlasting

Review by Angela Lester

When I received the advanced copy for DJ Kemit’s latest, Everlasting, I was expecting a mix of house music which though I like, I’m just not fond of reviewing. Let’s be real.  As much as I like house music, it’s kind of hard distinguishing one house tune from another.

I was pleasantly surprised.  Everlasting is an album with a mixture of house, soul, neo soul, and rock.  It’s a CD that you can put on and play from start to finish at your party without anyone telling you to change it.  If you don’t read anymore of this review, that’s okay.  Get this album for your collection.

Starting with “You Don’t Know,” DJ Kemit sets us up for a party filled with good music.  It’s a house tune with a neo soul bent. The song features Lady Alma Horton.  Although it’s a house tune, Lady Horton gives the listener a blues feel.

The album continues with song after song that provides surprises.  For instance, “Inside Out” has a great horn section. “I Was I Am” is a throwback to the greatest in hip hop music; a song with a message but still danceable. Even if you are more rock oriented, “It Ain’t Over Yet” satisfies you with a plethora of guitar riffs

The album includes songs from Eric Roberson, Choklate, and N’dambi just to name a few.  That’s enough for you to pick it up.  It’s definitely worth adding to your collection.
