“It wasn’t until I heard some Bill Withers songs that I got the inspiration to really try singing and then I found my vocal stride.” Anthony David

He’s President Obama’s latest favorite artist. He’s been nominated for a Grammy and has toured with the likes of India Arie and Kem.  He’s teamed up with super talents like Algebra and Phonte.  Called the heir apparent to Bill Withers, he’s in heavy rotation on my iPod.  I’m talking about the multitalented, singer, songwriter, musician, and producer Anthony David, our latest X2theL Featured Artist.

Growing up in Savannah,GeorgiaDavid’s initial inclination was not music. He did a stint in the army before realizing that the military was not for him.  David moved to Atlanta where he studied to become a sound engineer. Quietly learning the music business from behind the boards, he helped form the band El Plus on the Virgin Record Label.  Connecting with India Arie, David finally picked up the guitar and the rest is history

In 2004, David signed with Brash records where he recorded two albums, 3 Chords and The Truth (2004) and The Red Clay Chronicles (2006), the latter containing his Grammy-nominated duet with India Arie “Words.”  After signing with Universal/Republic, the gems of his freshman and sophomore projects were placed on the critically acclaimed compilation album Acey Duecy (2008).

David’s next album, As Above So Below (2011), was released under his latest partnership with Purpose Music Group and E1 Entertainment Group.  This project saw David team up with a new producing partner, Nashville singer/songwriter Shannon Sanders.  The record is full of surprises, from the “God Said” to “4Evermore” to the politically charged “Reach Ya.”

In late 2011, David also released another album #LocationLocationLocation again under the Purpose Music Group/E1 Entertainment Group label.
